Day 7 - Port Renfrew to Ucluelet

It was a long twisty drive from Port Renfrew to Ucluelet today, mostly on roads that originated as logging routes. It reminded me of driving in New Zealand. We took a break in Nanaimo in search of some wine in case the store was low on stock in Ucluelet (there was none in Port Renfrew). Got to see lots of trees along the way.

We arrived a little early for check-in so we stopped at the harbour and inspected the fishing fleet and a few of the pleasure boats. They have an original wooden troller (not trawler) fleet still in operation. These boats were built in the 30's and 40's and still actively catching fish by line rather than net.

There are also a large number of sport fishing boats there ready to catch some expensive salmon if you are into that sort of thing.

The apartment we rented is right on the water next to a government pier and the aquarium.

These are some views from our balcony.

The fog was rolling in after we had dinner so it sort of nixed any sunset photos I had in mind but we decided to visit the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse and see what we could see. There were some interesting fog bank scenes as the sun set.

After returning to the apartment, we watched the night fog roll in and noticed a number of critters swimming to a nearby dock. A family of about 10 sea otters got out of the water and onto the dock then proceeded to get into one of the wale watching boats for the night.

An eere fog view a little later....
