Day 21 - Vancouver
Today's weather featured grey skies and 16 - 20 C but the rain held off so we were able to head out on a walking tour of West End and Downtown Vancouver.
We are only a few blocks from Sunset Beach Park and the Seawall walking path that goes around Stanley Park. The palm trees look like thay are not looking forward to fall and the beach was empty today.
There are numerous bike paths and lanes in Vancouver and, if you are walking, you really have to be careful where these intersect or share common paths. Pedestrians beware!
Vancouver has a huge homeless human problem. You see them in every park and on the streets. All of the public parks are closed after 10:00 pm so it looks like the homeless take the opportunity to sleep during the day....
There were a large number of ships at anchor in the harbour waiting for their turn at the shipping terminal...
We walked along the seawall as far as Stanley Park then headed north to the inner harbour.
A square with flags lowered in honour of Queen Elisabeth II...
The walking path continued to the north shore and a walk along the shoreline of Vancouver Harbour. An amazing number of larger yachts. You don't see near this number or size of boats in the Toronto area.
Again, lots of condos and interesting architecture...
We spent a bit of time watching all of the activity at the Seaplane Airport...
We had clocked about 8 km walking on pavement and it was about time to head home so we started walking down Burrard St in the heart of downtown. We had read about the Marine Building which is from the Art Deco era. Just a great photo op!
This elevator bank was fantastic.... note the indicator lights above the door!
Further up the street is Christ Church Cathedral that stands in contrast with all of the glass high rise towers. The ceiling and arches are beautiful wood!
We finally made it home to Davie Village (a couple of blocks away from home).
Our concierge David, had given us another recommendation for nearby dining for tonight. A Malaysian restaurant a couple of blocks away. Again a fantastic place!
