Day 18 - Smokey Whistler on Chris's Birthday

Well, the air quality forecast was for things to improve by this morning but we haven't seen a significant improvement. We had a leisurely morning getting caught up on laundry and researching options for exploring. We have a walking trail to Lost Lake that leaves from our condo and it was rated as not too strenuous so, even though the air quality was still bad at a rating of 9 of 10, we decided to heaad out for a leisurely hike and see how it went with Chris's asthma. We really wanted to do something outdoors to celebrate her birthday. We took our time stopping often for photo opportunities and everything worked out.

The trail started as a paved path, then gravel path, then a dirt hiking path through the woods and around the lake.

We had some nice views of Lost Lake as the visibility slowly improved in the afternoon. We were finally able to make out the features of both mountains and are hopeful that it will clear enough tomorrow to make a gondola ride to the alpine meadow trails worthwhile.

The new critter of the day were the tiny toads that were hopping all over the trail in places. These little guys were only 2 cm long and you eally had to watch where you stepped!

We took a trail that followed the creek back to the village.

We regrouped at the condo and went out for another stroll through the village to pick up some essentials (coffee and wine).

It's Monday and not nearly as busy in the village so it was easy to get out for Birthday Dinner!!! Lots to choose from and we finally settled on Indian food at the Tandoori Grill. Just a great Indian restaurant that has been there for 25 years and I know why. We were served by the owner who provided great service and food. Needed the bottle of wine to keep the spice in check.
