Day 8 - Ucluelet - Outing to Pacific Rim National Preserve and Tofino

The fog was thick when I woke up so we took our time having breakfast and getting ready for a day's outing to Pacific Rim National Preserve. The weather forecast is not too promising for the next couple of days so we wanted to make use of the promised sunshine later this morning.

We drove to Long Beach which we visited during our last trip to Vancouver Island in 1982.

The first thing I saw in the parking lot was this ultimate world exploring RV from Germany. You can go anywhere in one of this if you can afford the fuel.

There was some fog and the waves were not very big for the surfers but great for all of the novices that had rented boards for the day.

The beach at low tide is pure hard sand, perfect for beach walking.

As it got closer to noon, some of the fog lifted and there were lots of nice beach views.

From here we drove to Tofino and stopped for some lunch before walking around the small downtown and admiring the views from the waterfront. A number of galleries, restaurants and small boutiques but quite understated.

There was a hike from downtown to Tonquin Beach so we went there to check it out. A small sand beach with families enjoying the water.

On our way back to Ucluelet we stopped at the Rainforest Trail in the National Preserve. A nice interpretive trail on a boardwalk but lots of stairs which finished off our hiking for today. A very dense forest of Cedar, Hemolck and Fir trees centuries old.
